Forgotten Manchester United starlet Hannibal Mejbri to return to Old Trafford as Sevilla loan spell hits new low

Sevilla are reportedly passing up the chance to sign Hannibal Mejbri on a permanent deal after a difficult loan spell.

The Manchester United starlet joined the LaLiga side in January, signing until the end of the season, but has only made four appearances so far.

Expecting a positive move for the 21-year-old, his parent club inserted an option for Sevilla to buy him for £17 million, as well as a buy-back option.

But after accumulating just 90 minutes of play and being completely ruled out on Saturday, Hannibal is now expected to return to Old Trafford this summer, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Hannibal’s loan spell got off to a bad start after Sevilla announced he would not be considered for selection a week after his signing.

At the time, Sevilla boss Quique Sánchez Flores said: “After being with him, talking to him and seeing his first minutes at Girona, we are going to give him the space to understand where he is , that he is in Seville and what that means.

“He needs to know where he is and we want to see that. We’ve spoken with him and we think he needs to have time to learn.

“We wanted to give him space, time to see things from the outside and then he will come back into the team.”

MEN sources described “widespread interest” in loan and permanent transfers for Hannibal last summer, but the decision was made to keep him in the first team.

He was loaned out to Championship side Birmingham last season and made 41 appearances, scoring one goal and providing six assists during that time.

Hannibal then made ten appearances for United in the first half of that season, scoring his first senior goal for the club in the 3–1 defeat to Brighton.

Everton were interested in signing him in January, but Hannibal instead opted to join Sevilla on loan.
