Las Vegas – After a pile of success “bad”, Oz’s women returned to Cinemacon for a victory tour – and an overview of the future.

“It was a year,” Cynthia Erivo told a crowd filled with theater owners. It was an understatement, given the 10 popular nominations of Broadway Oscars Adaptation (including the best image, support actress), the box office taking (third higher domestic employee of 2024, with $ 433 million) and a strong imprint on pop culture of the last holiday season.

Now they start again: Erivo and Ariana Grande began the first trailer for the future, “Wicked: For Good” (in theaters on November 21). The fresh images “for good” have resumed the “bad” cliffhanger, with Elphaba (Erivo) defying the wishes of the sorcerer (Jeff Goldblum), leaving his friend Glinda (large) and now working on his magic as a fugitive of the law. Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) is shown in search of Elphaba with his group of soldiers, while propaganda emanates from both sides (posters denouncing Elphaba, but his response with “our assistant lies” written in the clouds).

But a large part of the trailer is with Elphaba and Glinda together, bringing together and determining what their relationship will be, as well as glimpses at key moments, including a wedding involving Glinda and Fiyero, a tequin of Fiyrero turning on the assistant to help Elphaba, and a revolt led by animals arrives in Oz. “I am leaving to see the sorcerer,” warns Elphaba, borrowing the classic Dorothy line.

Great has teased that his character must “look at his reflection to understand what Glinda is good” – and also shouted the workers of the concession in a cinema in the south of Florida – while Erivo said that Elphaba “must learn to use his powers to improve the property in exile”. In addition, producer Marc Platt has promised “more complexity and more depth” in the two characters.

Meanwhile, the “wicked” sequel seems to be looking hard in its links with “The Wizard of Oz”. Director Jon M. Chu revealed that the film “gives us the point where the girl with the Vichy dress falls from Kansas”. There were even familiar songs in the trailer “for good”, with Dorothy and the crew walking on the road to the yellow brick and the sorcerer ordering them to “bring me” to scan of Elphaba.
