For François Hollande, “Emmanuel Macron must end his mandate”

“I am for respecting the deadlines”, indicates, to Ouest-France, François Hollande, who “is not one of those who speculate on an early departure of Emmanuel Macron, like Jean-Luc Mélenchon and Marine Le Pen.” But also a majority of French people according to the latest polls: 61% again in an Odoxa study for Le Figaro on Friday.

For the former tenant of the Élysée, “whatever the reproaches that can be addressed” to his successor – “and they are numerous”, he emphasizes – “he was re-elected and he must therefore complete his mandate”, especially since “his resignation would cause a major institutional crisis”.

There is no question of calling new legislative elections either, believes François Hollande, who was again elected deputy in his stronghold of Corrèze in July. “I do not see how a dissolution, within six months, could give us an Assembly different from that of today”, divided into three blocs and without a majority, he justifies.

Judging that “the time has come for a peaceful parliamentary democracy”, he even suggests that the government of François Bayrou “will be able to hold out until 2027”. On condition, however, that he “concedes significant gestures”, in particular on pensions and “tax justice”, so as not to expose himself to “temptations of censorship”.

Presidential candidate in 2027?

Anxious to “enable the return of stability in the country”, François Hollande also wishes to “rediscover a large Socialist Party”, both “fully autonomous” vis-à-vis rebellious France, and “capable of welcoming » figures like Bernard Cazeneuve and Raphaël Glucksmann.

Demanding that a congress “take place before the summer” to decide the line and “prepare for 2027”, the former head of state, however, touches on the question of his possible candidacy for the next presidential election.
