Alexandra Merrett, wife of the captain of the Essendon bombers, Zach Merrett, targeted the Melbourne cricket field after being unable to find a breastfeeding room during the Anzac day match.
Merrett used a publication on social networks to reveal that it was forced to use a toilet cabin to pump breast milk after looking for an appropriate room for 20 minutes.
“A petition for the MCG to have a breastfeeding room,” she legend a Tiktok video showing the incident.
The comments on the post quickly informed the new mother that there are breastfeeding rooms on the site.
A user replied: “There are 4 parental rooms at level 1 which have food / breastfeeding cabins, modify the tables, microwaves and televisions to continue watching the game and more.”
Merrett replied that “would have been good to know”, and later added that she had sought a room but could not find one.

Hester Brown, wife of the former AFL Ben Brown star, has experience in breastfeeding in football stadiums.
She breastfed her two sons in parental rooms while her husband played for Melbourne and North Melbourne.
However, she sympathized with Merrett and said that her friends had also been in similar situations.
“I also asked for help and often – and this is not the problem of MCG staff – but they often do not know where it is, or it will be on the other side of the members, a million kilometers away,” Brown told ABC.
“If they have left their child at home, or if it’s a night game, you should always pump if you feed this way.
“ So often, it’s just you stand up in a cabin or sit on the toilet by yourself with the machine that turns in the background not having a pleasant or relaxed experience.
“And all these things can add stress because it is (already) very hard and stressful to be a parent and there are a lot of emotions involved in breastfeeding, a lot of pain. It can be very difficult.
Most Australian stadiums have rooms that include intimacy areas and baby change facilities.

The supporters of Merrett informed her that the MCG has parental rooms – but she replied that they were far too difficult to find

Lucinda McKimm, host of Podcast Ready or not, said that the concern about finding a safe place to pump or breastfeeding could make you think twice to go to football.
“It is excellent that there are parental rooms available for mothers who want to enjoy football,” she said.
“But if it is not easy enough for the woman of an AFL player, more work must be done to ensure that all mothers, including those with a handicap or for whom English could be their second language, can access these pieces which keep women and mothers who participate in society and feel safe by doing so.”
