Grand Footy Cyril Rioli had chosen not to return to his former club, Hawthorn, for his centenary celebrations last week.
But Thursday, he was spotted for the first time in a football match watching that his former club hawthorn was beaten 16.8 (104) – 15.6 (96) by Gold Coast in what was the opening match of Sir Doug Nicholls this weekend at Tio Stadium in Darwin
The Great Foot cut a big smile and got up to applaud the star of the Gold Coast, Bailey Humphrey, who kicked an astonishing objective of the 50m arc, while the crawling side of Damien Hardwick began to quickly start five majors on the rebound in the opening quarter.
“He had a fair smile on his face when Gold Coast kicked this goal,” said his former teammate Luke Hodge, while Channel 7 cameras rushed to Rioli in the crowd.

At the end of the match, Hodge was seen heading for the stands where Rioli was seated and was spotted with the catch -up with the great Hawthorn, after admitting that he and other players had not been able to contact Rioli in recent months.
Speaking last week on The Agenda Setters of Channel 7, Hodge, who played with Rioli in Hawthorn, opened its doors on the fractured relationship of his former teammate with the club.

“I think there have been a lot of guys … I stretched my hand. I went to Darwin in 2021/22 for the shooting, I tried to call him, I obtained his old number, then I obtained his new Hilly number (Bradley Hill), I tried to call … I got nothing from him.

He came after Rioli was the main applicant in a legal complaint against the Hawthorn Football Club, where he alleged that he and other Aboriginal players and family members were subjected to a culture of racism during their stay in Hawks

Hodge said he was saddened by Rioli’s decision not to come back for birthday celebrations, adding: “When you spend so much guys, you want to see all their faces.”
Rioli, alongside his wife, Carl Peterson and Jermaine Miller-Lewis, filed a request for illegal discrimination in the Federal Court.
However, applicants and Hawthorn would publish a joint declaration published on the club’s website that they had resolved the dispute with complainants receiving an undisclosed sum of money.
Hawthorn apologized to players and their families for any “ injury and distress ” during their stay at the Footy Club.
Speaking about his relationship with Rioli, Hodge said: “We left on very good terms.
“I have messages from Cyril from the moment his old man was a crook, saying,” The family is before football. Go spend time with your family. ”
“And then when he retired, he sent me a message saying:” Thank you for all the development and all the help “.
“So I never had any problem with Cyril, but when he somehow encountered this with Hawthorn, it’s a bit like he was separated from everyone there.

Cyril’s cousin, Daniel Rioli, is currently playing for the Suns, joining the Gold Coast outfit in 2024.
The football star experienced a solid outing at the TIO stadium, amassing five plated, four brands and 21 eliminations.
