Football star Taylan May gets NRL’s most extreme tattoo

  • Penrith center receives shocking new ink
  • Revealed her extreme look on Tuesday
  • Design will be very present on the ground

Panthers star Taylan May has revealed his shocking new tattoo after having his last name emblazoned across his neck in large letters.

The 22-year-old showcased the design on Instagram on Tuesday, with two videos showing him carrying out the work at a Sydney tattoo shop which also had teammate Brian To’o as a customer.

The footage shows the center preparing for Culture Ink & Tattoo’s stunning design, then showing off the ink on his neck accompanied by 2Pac’s song Only God Can Judge Me.

May’s new ink will be impossible to hide when he takes the field in Penrith’s next match against Wests on April 20.

The 22-year-old endured what must have been a very painful session at a Sydney tattoo parlor which also has teammate Brian To'o as a client.

May also posted a photo of himself showing off his tattoo in a car while American rapper Sleepy Hallow’s song All The Way plays in the background.

The Panthers star has no shortage of eye-catching ink, with the word “pain” tattooed under his right eye, a broken heart under his left and “Meliodas” — the name of an anime character — written across his chest.

“I’m really impulsive and I always wanted to get a face tattoo because I wanted to see how quickly people change and judge me,” he said last year.

“Automatically, people with tattoos are treated as if they want to be tough or as if they are scary.

“I feel like I was looking deep inside for help at that moment, so I put the ‘pain’ on my face.

“I get asked about it and I try to avoid the question, but that’s where I was.

“A lot of people judge too quickly. Sometimes that’s how I present myself, but if you met me and talked with me, I’d like to think I’m totally different.

May made headlines earlier this year when he left Broncos star Reece Walsh with a facial fracture during a controversial hit.

In the opening minutes of Penrith’s 34-12 round three victory, May came out of the defensive line and hit Walsh just after the Broncos number 1 had passed the ball, with the two men clashing headers.

Walsh fell to the turf bleeding from his face and, despite being assessed for his head injury, was unable to continue playing.

Broncos coach Kevin Walters was furious that the NRL’s Match Review Committee (MRC) chose not to charge May for the hit, with Walsh expected to miss at least a month injured.

The hit drew comparisons to a clash in the 2022 season, when Cronulla forward Dale Finucane clashed with ball runner Stephen Crichton and received a two-match suspension.

NRL football boss Graham Annesley later said he should have been charged over the incident.
