Football fans criticized a series of bold AFL plans which could be introduced from next year – including the holding of big finals in mid -October.
The original state should also be relaunched because the list of radical devices will avoid clashes of finals with the LNR, major events such as the Melbourne Grand Prix and the historic NFL game which will be played in September 2026 at MCG with the Rams of Los Angeles.
Speaking on Channel 9 Football classified Tuesday evening, the identity of football and the media Eddie McGuire revealed the changes offered.
“It is not a joke of the April fools day, it is discussed in the highest levels of the AFL,” he said.
“It is to move the grand finale in 26 and ’27 in the second week of October and the season would start with a state of origin played for two weekends.
“ The final step would cease the clashes with the Grand Prix at the start of the year, the NFL match would be well integrated in a weekend of leave between the end of the season and the final, then the following year, the 150th anniversary (Cricket Damil) between Australia and England.

“More importantly, it gives players and fans a better start to the season. It also means no confrontation with rival codes for the three largest games – the two preliminary finals and the (large) final.
“It would also be a great final of daylight in 2026 that could lead to a grand night final.
“The AFL works with the theme of transforming major events into mega events to set up a major growth in the game during the next decade.”
Previously, 29 major VFL / AFL finals were played in October, including the 2020 decision-maker between Richmond and Geelong which was delayed due to the COVVI-19 pandemic.
Other games spread in October because of how the calendar dropped, especially in 2015 (October 3) and 2016 (October 1).
Perplexed supporters quickly reacted to developments on social networks.
“No one wants that,” said bluntly on X.
“I have never seen the AFL look so shaken. Grim Times for the era (Andrew) Dillon, “has displayed another.
A third weighed with: “The absolutely dead idea of the brain. The grand final should still be an afternoon match on Saturday in September. The removal of the opening and the pre-finals would solve a lot of problems.
McGuire later added that the games of origin would star Victoria, South Australia, Australia-Western and the native All Stars of a first division.
The second division would be made up of state squads of Queensland, NSW, Tasmania and the Northern Territory.
Plans would also be in place to introduce an international match for women’s rules between Australia and Ireland.
