FOLIE À DEUX Lady Gaga Reveals Harley Quinn’s ‘Very Different’ New Name in Upcoming Sequel

Joker won $1 billion in 2019, proving that the Clown Prince of Crime can work without Batman to fight with. Of course, even though the film took significant liberties with the source material, Bruce Wayne – who may or may not be Arthur Fleck’s half-brother – still played a role.

Despite Joker having all the makings of a standalone film (it ended by revealing Fleck’s role in inspiring the mugger who killed Thomas and Martha Wayne), Joker: Folie à Deux will hit theaters later this year.

Described as a “jukebox musical”, we expect the action to take place in Arkham Asylum, with the spotlight placed on Arthur and Harley Quinn.

Or should it be Lee?

In the video below, Lady Gaga shares her excitement for the sequel and appears to confirm that a major change has been made to the iconic villain’s name.

“You know, it was a very nice experience” said the singer. “I had an incredible creative time and I still feel very lucky to be able to be creative every day, all day. This movie has amazing music, amazing actors and a wonderful director, Todd Phillips.

“I just had a great time. My version of Harley Quinn is ‘Lee,'” Gaga teased. “In many ways, I think this is going to be a very different Lee for people and I can’t wait for them to see the story we wanted to tell.”

We assume “Lee” is a nickname because the trailer featured a stage decoration with “JOKER & HARLEY” written on it. Of course, this might all be in Arthur’s head and, just as he calls himself “Joker,” Lee might decide she wants to be known as “Harley Quinn.”

“You know, my version of Harley is mine and it’s very authentic to this movie and these characters,” said the Oscar and Grammy Award winner in another recent interview. “I’ve never done anything like this in this movie before, so everything is going to be completely new and really fun.”

Margot Robbie played Harley Quinn in the DC Extended Universe and DC Studios boss James Gunn has strongly hinted that we’ll see her in the role again. As for Gaga’s version, we imagine that it will be a one-off role for the singer and actress.

Joker: Folie à Deuxwhich will fall under the “Elseworlds” banner and is not part of DC Studios’ new DCU, should be released in theaters on October 4, 2024, exactly five years later Joker made its debut.
