A flypast has Tonna Rome in honor of the state visit of King Charles III and Queen Camilla in Italy.

The display, involving both the red arrows of the United Kingdom and the Italy Frecce, followed the colors of the flags of the two nations as a symbol of narrower military links between the two countries.

Royal visitors – Carlo and Camilla in the local press – also received a warm welcome from Italian President Sergio Mattarella in his residence at the Palais de Quirineale.

The king and the queen arrived in Italy on Monday for a four -day state visit, during which they will celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary.

The Italian president, accompanied by his daughter Laura, welcomed the king and the queen in a reception of a red ceremonial carpet in the paved courtyard of the medieval palace.

A military group played by entering the palace, which over the centuries was a home of 30 popes, as well as Italian kings and presidents.

The queen wore a diamond pin that formerly belonged to Queen Victoria.

On Monday, the king and the queen met Lord Llewellyn, the UK ambassador to Italy, at his residence for the first commitment of the trip.

Speaking of the visit, Lord Llewellyn said that the alliance between Italy and the United Kingdom was “vital in a changing Europe, because our two countries remained firm in our support for Ukraine”.

The ambassador spoke of the “intangible but invaluable” value of these royal visits to soft power, because the United Kingdom tries to “reset” its relations with European neighbors after Brexit.

The king and the queen will see more the ancient monuments of Rome on Tuesday, including a trip to the colosseum.

The visit comes after the king recently spent a short period of time in the hospital for the temporary side effects of his treatment against cancer. He seemed in a good mood and enjoying the trip.

The king, as head of state, is in Italy on behalf of the British government, and Wednesday will give a speech to the two chambers of the Italian Parliament – the first time a British monarch has pronounced such an address.

Wednesday will also be the couple’s 20th wedding anniversary and shortly after their arrival on Monday, the king and the queen had birthday photos taken in the gardens of the British ambassador’s residence.

They will spend the evening of their birthday in a sumptuous state banquet, where guests should include politicians and celebrities.
