Flyers sign Matvei Michkov to three-year, entry-level contract

The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have signed a contract Matvei Mitchkov to a three-year entry-level contract, according to the CEO, Daniel Briere.

Mishkov, 19 (12/9/2004), spent the majority of last season with HC Sochi of the Kontinental Hockey League where he recorded 19 goals and 22 assists for 41 points in 47 games. He belonged to SKA Saint Petersburg, where he played one match before being loaned to HC Sochi for the rest of the season.

The 5-foot-10, 176-pound right wing led Sochi in goals (19), ranked second in total points (41) and third on the team in assists (22). Over the course of the season, he recorded 11 multi-point games, including three three-point games, five three-game point streaks, including a four-game point streak as an under-20 player. He finished the season with five goals and eight points in his last nine games.

Prior to being selected by the Flyers, Michkov played three games with SKA Saint Petersburg before being loaned to HC Sochi during the 2022-23 season and recorded 20 points (9g-11a) in 27 games. He also played 12 games with minor team SKA-Neva Saint Petersburg, where he recorded 10 goals and 14 points before being called up to the KHL.

Originally from Perm, Russia, Michkov has represented Russia on the international stage several times.

At the 2022 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup, he scored eight goals and 13 points, the best total of any player in the tournament, in five games, helping lead Russia to the gold medal. In 2021, he helped Russia win a silver medal and led all players in goals (12) and points (16), earning him the World Junior Championships Most Valuable Player award. under 18s.
