Floyd Mayweather has conquered the ring but now he’s ventured into the world of luxury spirits… here’s what happened when we opened a bottle of the boxing icon’s Good Money whiskey

Floyd Mayweather, known for his impeccable record in the boxing ring and his larger-than-life personality outside of it, has successfully ventured into the world of spirits with his Good Money Whiskey brand.

Good Money Whiskey is a new brand launching in 2024 as part of Mayweather’s growing portfolio of luxury brands and embodies his life philosophy: hard work, dedication and enjoying the finer things in life.

By venturing into the whisky market, Mayweather wanted to offer a premium product that would resonate with both whisky connoisseurs and fans of his illustrious career.

So we had to try it ourselves.

Mail Sport flew to Las Vegas to join Mayweather in the city that never sleeps, heading to the 8 Cigar Lounge in Resort World to sample his Good Money whisky.

Floyd Mayweather, known for his impeccable record in the boxing ring and larger-than-life personality, has ventured into the world of spirits with his Good Money Whiskey brand.

“Every adult wants to drink something good. And guess what? My team and I developed and selected the best exclusive products we could find to offer to the public,” Mayweather said.

It wasn’t long before Mayweather stepped behind the bar and opened a bottle of the brand’s flagship, a ten-year-old Canadian whisky known for its rich, smooth taste and complex aroma.

Mayweather, who won world titles in five different weight classes during his career, explained how the aging process imparts deep flavors of caramel, spice and vanilla, making it a favorite among whiskey lovers.

The undefeated champion then explained how the highly sought-after brand offers a five-year-old variant, which, although younger, still has a robust and refined flavour, making it accessible to a wider audience.

Mayweather’s lifestyle of opulence, success and refinement also positions Good Money whisky as a premium product. He prides himself on being the greatest boxer ever and now insists his whisky will follow suit by becoming the best brand on the market.

“It’s like boxing,” he said confidently, pouring himself another drink. “I had the best team, so I got the best results. I also have the best team on my marks. Try it and see.”

Mayweather then explained why his brand differs from other celebrities who have ventured into the alcohol industry – saying it’s all about stock investing.

“I don’t want to speak ill of celebrities who have launched a product, but there is a clear difference between them and me. Most of the time, celebrities are marketing someone else’s product. They have no ownership or stake.”

“Of course I have business partners who are involved in this project, but do I have a huge share of responsibility? Of course I do. Absolutely. I didn’t do all this alone, I had to have a team, but I am at the heart of the brand.”

“Of course, my dad helped me. My uncles helped me. My partners helped me. There were so many pieces to the puzzle, but I was involved every step of the way.”

MAYWEATHER’S CHEAP WHISKY

The Good Money is a global brand created in direct partnership with Floyd Mayweather.

The brand produces high-quality champagne and whisky. Its Canadian whisky is currently distributed in 10 states: Nevada, California, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Illinois, Florida, New York, Kentucky, Tennessee.

You can also purchase Good Money whiskey at major retailers such as Total Wine, Specs, Lee’s Liquors, and WalMart.

While Mayweather himself didn’t drink that night, he spoke about how the brand is designed to provide a luxurious and enjoyable experience for consumers, saying that Good Money is about enjoying the good times and creating memories that last a lifetime.

Good Money whisky’s packaging also reflects its premium positioning. The bottles are elegantly designed, with clean lines and sophisticated labelling that exudes luxury.

“I am very extreme on this point. Personally, for example, I am proud of being well cared for.

“I have to make sure I get a manicure and pedicure every week. I’m very particular about certain things and I feel like that’s reflected in my brands.

“Just look at the packaging and the label. Not only does it taste the best, it looks the best.”

Good Money Whiskey has strategically expanded its distribution to appeal to a broad audience while maintaining its exclusive appeal. The brand has gradually expanded its reach to other key markets including California, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Illinois, Florida, New York, Kentucky, Tennessee and Nevada.

The brand has also made significant inroads into high-end bars, restaurants and clubs, particularly in Las Vegas, where Mayweather’s influence is strongest. But the Money team is exploring opportunities for international expansion, targeting markets in Europe and Asia where premium American whiskey is in high demand.

When asked what the long-term goal is for both brands, Mayweather said, “It’s all about growth, giving people around the world a great product. The ultimate goal is to have it all over the world.”

“For example, Le Bon Argent is not a sparkling wine. It comes from the Champagne region of France. Most of the time, people bottle sparkling wine and claim it’s Champagne. It is Champagne, it’s the best. We have the best on the market, hands down.”

When it comes to Mayweather whisky, the ten-year-old Canadian whisky has received particularly positive reviews from critics and consumers alike. Its rich flavour, smooth finish and overall quality have been praised, earning it a respectable place in the competitive whisky market.

While Mayweather’s Le Bon Argent Champagne ranks in the top percentile, the Rosé scores 95 percent due to its vibrant natural flavors.

“I am very demanding on certain points, especially on my products. When they brought me the champagne for the first time, I wanted to make changes, I wanted to make sure it was the best.

“My two best friends and I have traveled all over the world and I’ve seen a lot of people drinking Moët. I’ve seen people drinking Perrier-Jouet Rosé. But we wanted to create something better.

“The first time we tested the product, we said no. We wanted to make sure we had the best product possible, so we made a lot of changes. We told them to go back, do some more research, and come back with a better product.

“Don’t get me wrong, we wanted to launch our products and get them to market, but we decided to wait until they were perfect. Once they found the right product, we knew it immediately and decided to go for it.”

It’s safe to say that Good Money products are more than just a business venture for Mayweather; they’re an extension of his legacy. By creating a premium whiskey and champagne brand, Mayweather has successfully translated his values of hard work, excellence, and luxury into a product that resonates with consumers.

Mayweather will return to the ring this summer for a rematch against John Gotti III – the grandson of the late mob boss – after first facing the 31-year-old in June 2023, with the fight ending in chaos after a brawl broke out when people stormed the ring.

When asked why he decided to give Gotti the opportunity to fight him in the first place, he told Mail Sport: “I was presented with an opportunity a few years ago but things didn’t go to plan.

“I’ve known the Gotti family for many years. I usually do my shows overseas, but when I had one in the United States, I gave him the opportunity because he was tough and his dream was to fight me one day, even though he fights mainly in MMA.”

Mayweather also spoke about the amount of money he typically makes from exhibition fights, saying he currently has offers of $300 million on his phone.

“I have a bunch of offers that I could show you on my phone. $300 million, $100 million, $50 million, $20 million, $17 million. Those are all offers that are on my phone right now. It all depends, but if you pay, we play. It’s that simple.”
