Floyd Mayweather Gives Provocative Answer to Retirement Question

Floyd Mayweather has no plans to hang up his gloves anytime soon.

“TBE” retired from professional boxing in 2017 with an unblemished 50-0 record, but continued to compete in lucrative exhibition fights.

Mayweather claims to have earned more than £200million fighting YouTubers, reality TV stars and everything in between during a second career that has been criticised from all sides.

Several members of the boxing fraternity have criticized Mayweather for tarnishing his legacy in the crossover sphere and urged him to stop.

But in a provocative statement posted on social media, Mayweather hit back at his critics.

He wrote: “Retirement is not about slowing down, but about living on your own terms.

“I’ve worked hard to build a life where I can choose my adventures, and if those adventures still bring in millions, even better!

“Success is not something you retire from, it is something you refine.”

“Exhibitions are my way of giving my fans, old and new, the opportunity to witness my greatness on any stage I choose.

“That’s what any successful businessman and CEO would do. It’s normal for Jeff Bezos, who is 60, Bill Gates, who is 68, and Warren Buffett, who is 93, to continually build their legacies and wealth, and they are celebrated as smart businessmen.

“But when I, a much younger black man, choose to do the same thing, it becomes somewhat of a problem for skeptics who have nothing to their credit.

“Ultimately, too many of you are busy watching your finances, while I am busy creating wealth and a legacy.”

Mayweather has entered the ring eight times since retiring from professional football.

Most of these fights were no-contests, meaning they ended in an automatic draw after going the distance, but there were a few stoppages along the way.

His first ever exhibition fight came in December 2018, when he humiliated and knocked out kickboxing star Tenshin Nasukawa in the opening stanza.

Eddie Hearn DOES NOT BELIEVE Floyd Mayweather is worth what he says he is!

Mayweather knocked the Japanese icon down three times as he danced around the ring before the fight was stopped.

Immediately after the fight, Nasukawa broke down in tears as Mayweather’s hand was raised.

The American boxing legend also made quick work of MMA fighter Mikuru Asakura and YouTuber Deji Olatunji while his most notable opponent was content creator Logan Paul.

Mayweather was outweighed by 34 pounds and probably more that night, but he managed to get through the eight-round fight without taking any real damage.

His most recent outing was a rematch against John Gotti III in August 2024.

Their opening match degenerated into a mass brawl after the fight was declared a draw due to excessive foul language.

In their second encounter, equally absurd scenes unfolded as Mayweather sacked the referee and replaced him mid-fight.
