For the third time in school history, the Florida Gators won the national championship.
Florida won this match in the same way as they won many others in this tournament – by reversing a deficit. After being down two -digit in Auburn in the Final Four, they were down 12 to the Houston Cougars. They achieved the third return to the history of the national championship – tied with Kentucky in 1998.
However, they won the victory to capture glory for the first time since Billy Donovan won consecutive titles in 2007.
Todd Golden becomes the second largest coach to win a national title in the history of the NCAA, having only two years more than Jim Valvano when he won the title of 1983 with NC State. By the way, Valvano and Golden beat Houston to win their titles.
In a season when the four best sports teams remained clearly at the top, she ended with two of these teams who clashed in the last match for a national title.
