Florida parent, four teens leave Kentucky Airbnb after unsettling discovery

Straight out of a horror movie.

A Florida woman abruptly ended her stay at a Kentucky Airbnb and was ordered to find a hotel room after she returned from a night on the town and made a disturbing discovery.

The parent was in Lexington last weekend for a horse competition with her daughter, her three friends and her grandmother when they went out to dinner on April 13, according to FOX 56.

“When we got back, the girls hung out and we got ready for bed around 11:30,” the renter told the outlet.

However, as they were getting ready for bed, they made a horrible discovery.

“One of the girls came in and told me her window was open,” the tenant said. “My mother and I went to discover that both windows in their bedroom were indeed open and ajar.”

The mother soon realized that all the windows in the house had been opened in a similar position, although they were sure they were all closed when they left for dinner.

But what happened next forced the tenant to call the police.

“When I opened the window, there was a car parked across the street with tinted windows. When I looked up and looked at their car, the car immediately started and took off,” the renter told the outlet.

The mother, identified as Laura from Tampa, told WTQV it was her first time staying in an Airbnb.

Fortunately, an “officer quickly arrived” and searched the Airbnb around 11:38 p.m. but found no signs of forced entry into the rental.

“I feel like someone was there to take the girls,” Laura told the outlet. “I said, I feel like we could have woken up to something very different tomorrow morning. And he said, trust your instincts. He said, I can’t say for sure that’s what was happening.

This strange occurrence led the agent to tell the tenant to leave Airbnb and find a rental for the rest of their stay if they didn’t feel safe.

The officer stayed kindly with the group until they had packed up their belongings and left the property, police told the outlet.

“When we opened the garage doors and saw there were two cars and officers outside, we felt really safe. It also validated what happened to us,” the tenant said.

There were 148 breaking and entering offenses in Lexington between January and February 2024, according to statistics released by the state.

Disturbing experiences and crimes committed while staying on home-sharing services have become a persistent problem over the years.

In July 2023, a woman reportedly discovered a camera in the bedroom of a Florida apartment she had rented through Airbnb.

In September, an Airbnb host in Mississippi was caught taking a security photo of her married guest “in the company of another woman” and emailed the photo to the man’s wife after a Failed extortion attempt triggered by bad review, according to filed complaint. in February.
