A 20-year-old Florida man accused of sexually assaulting a minor has been hit with additional charges after he allegedly attacked the Broward County sheriff’s deputy on Sunday.

Samuel Shirk is accused of committing “a lewd and lascivious sexual assault and assault on a young child while staying with the child and the child’s mother” over a period of several months this year, it has been reported the sheriff’s office.

The victim’s family first contacted law enforcement about the charges on Saturday and deputies arrested Shirk following an investigation the following day.

“After being questioned by detectives at the BSO Public Security Building, Shirk asked to use the restroom. After using the restroom and entering a holding cell and while handcuffed, Shirk attacked a Deputy BSO,” the sheriff’s office said in an incident report. . “As the deputy cried out for help, an BSO detective came to his aid. The two BSO employees managed to subdue Shirk and place him in a holding cell.”
