Florida boaters filmed dumping trash directly into ocean

A group of Florida boaters were filmed throwing trash cans directly into the water at Haulover Inlet in Florida.

According to reports, the incident occurred during the Boca Bash on Sunday, April 28, an annual event that attracts thousands of boaters, most of whom are there to party.

The party, which takes place at Lake Boca Raton, is not officially affiliated with the city of Boca. It has an interesting origin story.

“The event originally started as a birthday party for then-local Rockey Rossi, planned by his friends Brad Geisen and Scott McCure in 2007,” explained The Palm Beach post. “The city asked them to cancel the party, which would have included hiring the rock band Nickleback to perform. The plans, however, received enough attention and, despite their cancellation, attracted dozens of boaters to the lake.

Since then, the rally has exploded. So much so that it’s a bit annoying for the city. Although there are usually a number of arrests — mostly for operating a vessel while under the influence — this year’s party was surprisingly tame. But one group was caught doing something really shitty: simply throwing their trash off the boat and into the water.

At the time of writing, only one of the passengers has been provisionally identified. We’ll leave his name out as it’s unconfirmed, but the drone pilot who captured them aggressively dumping trash tried to find visible registration numbers on the boat. Unfortunately, the pilot did not succeed.

However, the video is quickly making the rounds and anger at the extreme littering group is boiling over. There is a good chance that they will be identified in the near future and hopefully held accountable. This is, as you might expect, a crime.

“Federal law prohibits the disposal of any waste from a boat in lakes, rivers, bays, sounds and offshore within three miles of the ocean,” the Department of Conservation wrote. Florida Environmental Protection. “Violations can result in civil penalties, fines and possible prison time. »
