The Kansas City chiefs strengthened their offensive line Thursday evening by selecting the Josh Simmons offensive platform with the overall choice n ° 32 of the NFL 2025 draft.
Here are five things to know about the new member of the offense.
1. Simmons was probably going to be a selection of the top-15 if it was not for a knee injury that he had suffered in mid-October.
Largely considered one of the best offensive plated of all university football before the 2024 season, Simmons was considered a competitor as the first tackle selected in the draft of the 2025 NFL before a knee injury ends its early season.
The injury made Simmons slide until the end of the first round, and when it was offered to select it, the chefs did not hesitate.
“I think everyone knows that when he is in good health and with the band, he had early last year before the injury, this puts him in the higher level of what he could be as a future starter and a difference in difference to the left striker,” said Director General Brett Veach. “Without this injury, he is probably not there.”
The decision to select Simmons took place after months of meticulous research and checks in its rehabilitation progress. Head coach Andy Reid talked about Simmons’s status on Thursday evening, adding that he expects Simmons to be ready for the training camp.
“(Vice-president of sports medicine and performance) Rick Burkholder has done a lot of work on him. He is in a good place … He is well healed,” said head coach Andy Reid. “He has gone through all the re-talks, and we’ll just see where it goes from there.”
