Isaiah Stewart de Detroit was suspended for two games and four other Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves players aroused suspensions in a match for their roles in an altercation on the field between the teams earlier this week, the NBA announced on Tuesday.
Stewart obtained two games “based in part on its repeated history of anti -sport acts,” said the League.
The NBA has given the prohibitions of a match to Ron Holland II of Detroit and Marcus Sasser with Naz Reid and Donte Divincenzo from Minnesota. These five players were expelled from Sunday’s match, as is Detroit JB Bickerstaff coach and Minnesota Assistant Pablo Prigioni.
“Obviously, things went too far,” said Bickerstaff after this match. “But what you see are the guys who are looking for each other, the guys trying to protect each other, the guys trying to get his back. … These are non-negotiations in our changing rooms.”
The incident started when Holland committed Reid with 8:36 to do in the second quarter of the 123-104 Timberwolves victory against the Minneapolis pistons. Reid confronted Holland, which then pushed Divincenzo, which then pushed Holland – and they end up falling into spectators sitting along the baseline.
Stewart and Sasser then entered the altercation, “which led to a continuous escalation of the situation,” said the League.
Reid and Divincenzo serve their suspensions on a match on Tuesday when the Timberwolves visit Denver. Stewart will start to serve his suspension on Wednesday when the pistons visit Oklahoma City, and Holland and Sasser will also serve their suspensions in this match.
