A first responder training exercise involving a simulated plane accident should take place at Mission Bay on Wednesday morning, officials announced.
The exercise will involve staff from the San Diego fire rescue department, the American Coast Guard, the San Diego Police Service and various other agencies, officials said.
The officials said it would take place between 9 a.m. and noon near the rescuer’s headquarters on Quivira Court, just east of the entrance to the Bay mission canal.
“The exercise will simulate two small planes in the air on the mission bay, with an airplane falling into the bay and another landing off the mission beach,” said officials. “The exercise will assess the capacities of the city’s public security services to respond effectively to a major maritime disaster, as well as to be able to coordinate with regional partners.”
Residents have been told to expect emergency vehicles and crews present in the Bay mission region and along the coast while the training exercise is underway.
