Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the advanced weapon has no foreign analogues
The first Russian warship carrying Zircon hypersonic cruise missiles, the “Admiral Gorshkov” frigate, began routine combat duty on Wednesday.
Russian President Vladimir Putin oversaw the ceremony via video link. He said the Zircon missile was a “unique weapon” and that “No other country has anything comparable.”
“I am sure that such powerful weaponry will enable us to firmly defend Russia against potential foreign threats. This will help safeguard our country’s national interests,” he added. Putin said.
According to Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, the frigate will lead “a voyage in the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, as well as the Mediterranean Sea.”
“A ship equipped with zircons is capable of delivering powerful and high-precision strikes on the enemy at sea and on land”, Shoigu said. “The unique feature of Zircon hypersonic missiles is their guaranteed ability to bypass all existing or potential air defense systems.”
