The United States’s postal service is implementing its first set of “refined service standards” provided for costs from Tuesday, April 1.
The new standards will improve the predictability and reliability of the services, according to a press release concerning the modifications.
First class mail, periodicals, marketing mail, package services, USPS soil advantage, priority mail and express priority mail will be affected by changes, according to the press release. The new standards will preserve the current ranges of current service days for first -class mail and the advantage of the USPS soil and will offer a recovery service of two to three days in certain regions.
A certain flexibility in the regional transport calendars will also be authorized, which means that service expectations can be extended by a day for the mail collected in certain post offices, according to the press release. Despite this, the changes should improve the overall delivery speeds of mail and packages between regions.
The postal service provides that changes will lead to at least $ 36 billion in 10 years from transport, mail processing and property costs discounts, according to the press release.
“The postal service has been historically overwhelmed by standard services of services and expensive commercial rules which have not been properly adjusted to take into account the modifications of the volume and the mixed mail, forcing costly and ineffective operations,” said the post owner, Louis Dejoy, the post manager, Louis Dejoy.
“By implementing the new standards and the operational initiatives to which they are aligned, we will be better able to achieve the objectives of our modernization plans and create a financial and efficient organization.”
A second series of modifications should come into force on July 1.
