Good morning! It looks like 2/3 of the holiday weekend days will be great! Just get out today. It’s by no means a washout, but expect a series of showers and thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon.
First, we wake up this morning to a hot and very humid start. A few integrated showers and thunderstorms are here early, mostly in the north and east. That’s really going to be the trend today…clouds with a bit of sun sometimes, with that passing risk. We have a yellow alert for your Saturday for this reason. After a lull at noon, scattered thunderstorms are likely to reignite this afternoon ahead of a cold front. Heavy rain and damaging wind gusts are the main threats with these.
If you’re heading to the beach, just be prepared to take shelter if necessary when the storms pass. There is a high risk of rip currents for the south shore and a moderate risk for NJ beaches.
Showers and thunderstorms will continue to move through the evening hours, which could cause problems for the Saturday night fireworks display. The good news is that activity is gradually slowing down overnight and things are looking good for Sunday. Expect the first clouds to give way to more sunshine. The fine weather rolls into the fourth itself. Temperatures on both days will be in the 80s and humidity will be much lower on Sunday afternoon. All Sunday and Monday night fireworks are good to go!
Have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend! Keep an eye on the sky today.
