Fire damages Volvo dealership service center in Kearny Mesa

A fire at a Kearny Mesa car dealership damaged a building and several vehicles — including at least one electric vehicle — Wednesday before the flames were extinguished, the San Diego Fire Department said.

The fire at the Volvo Cars San Diego service center was reported shortly after 2:05 p.m. on Kearny Mesa Road, just west of State Route 163. It was destroyed shortly before 2:25 p.m., the department said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

No injuries were reported.

“Multiple crews extinguish fire at Volvo dealership on Kearny Mesa Rd. Electric vehicle and structure fire. HAZMAT crew en route. Please avoid the area if possible,” the department posted on X.

It was not immediately clear how the fire started. A damage estimate was not immediately available.

Photos published on X showed crews spraying water on flames coming from cars in what appeared to be a covered garage.

ABC 10News San Diego released video taken from a helicopter showing a large area covered in white moss. Flames blackened the roof above the service center where the fire burned.
