The new scores of the standardized state test published on Friday show a slight improvement in the reading and mathematics of students last year when the mathematical scores slipped.
The share of students meeting school standards has increased this year from 53% to 54% in reading and from 41% to 43% in mathematics.
Students’ performance on examining the assessments of the state of academic preparation assessments are a window on their skills in mathematics and reading – the skills they will need to succeed after high school.

The Staar exam tests all the students of Texas Public School in third year in mathematics and reading. A scientific test is also administered for fifth and eighth students and a social study test for eighth year students.
Some families and teachers from Texas criticize the end -of -year Staar test for the huge burdens it puts to students. They say the test is too long; This can take up to seven o’clock to finish. Some parents report that their children do not want to go to school on test days.
Legislators have recently tried to replace the Staar test with three shorter tests. During the regular session, the effort failed after the negotiations between the Texas Chamber and the Senate collapsed. The two chambers had a second chance to find common ground when they summoned themselves for a special session last month, but the proposal is likely to tear down again while the Democrats of the Chamber stage a rupture of the quorum on the redistribution which prevents the lower chamber from voting on legislation. Governor Greg Abbott said he would call a new special session at the end of the current end, although it is not clear if the Staar reform will be reforming the list of legislators’s tasks.
The test results have a lot of weight when the Texas Education Agency notes the districts and campuses on their performance. In a college in Austin, where many students still learn English but must pass the test in the language, their results dragged behind the district and the state. The ratings of failure that the school has received almost prompted the district to consider closing, despite the objections of the community.
