Final deadline for Illinois driver’s license and ID renewal in just over a week – NBC Chicago

After numerous deadline extensions due to the COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years, Illinoisans who have not yet renewed their driver’s license or ID card should do so soon.

Thursday, December 1 marks the end of the last extension for driving license and identity card renewal, with the deadline also applying to learner’s permits.

However, the next deadline does not apply to commercial driver’s licenses or CDL learner’s permits.

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White initially extended the renewal period due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and later announced several more extensions.

White, however, extended the expiration date for restricted driving licenses to December 1, but only for licenses that were due to expire between December 1, 2021 and December 1, 2022.

The Secretary of State’s office encourages people to complete the renewal process online, if possible, although drivers have the option of visiting a facility instead. Illinois drivers can book an appointment at one of 30 driver service locations or walk-in.

Some larger installations may require appointments, the secretary of state’s office noted.

Anyone seeking additional information or how to schedule an appointment should visitilsos.gov.
