The reshaping of the alignment of the Indiana Fever received a significant boost on Sunday while the team accepted the conditions with the free agent Dewanna Bonner for a year agreement, according to several reports.
Bonner, 37, is an all-star of the WNBA six times and is one of two WNBA title teams, first with the Phoenix Mercury in 2009 and later with the Mercury in 2014. Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston, the consecutive winners of the recruit of the year.
Bonner, who has an average of 15 points and 6 rebounds per game last season with Connecticut Sun, will find coach Stephanie White, who left the sun to cause fever in December. ESPN first reported the news of the Bonner agreement.
Bonner is the last more off -season for a team of fever positioning itself for a deep race in the playoffs. Indiana recognized Kelsey Mitchell, exchanged for Sophie Cunningham and signed the double star Natasha Howard.
With the departure of Bonner, the five starters for the sun have now left the team after the 28-12 season of Connecticut. The team made the playoffs for four consecutive seasons, including a race for the final in 2022, but drew up for a reconstruction of this off -season by exchanging Alyssa Thomas, Dijonai Carrington and Ty Harris, and letting Brionne Jones and Bonner Sign With other teams.
Although this will only be the second season of Clark’s WNBA and Boston’s third, Bonner’s signatures and Howard highlight the desire for the franchise to compete not only in the long term, but immediately.
Bonner is among the most versatile wings of the WNBA. At 6 feet 4 inches, it provides Indiana with a defender capable of keeping different types of players, and it is easy to provide the mixture of fever and match alignments with it in attack. They could play bigger with Clark, Mitchell, Bonner, Howard and Boston, or slide to the avant-garde point and go with Lexie Hull or Cunningham on the wing. Bonner only pulled 29.4% compared to 3 last season, and did not shoot above 33% of the 3-point range since 2011, it would therefore not be shocking to see the teams ‘Confront facing dilemmas of Pick-Your-Poisson. However, the addition of the All-Star six times is an undoubtedly major collection.
Not only is she familiar with the new coach of White, Indiana, but also a number of other members of the organization. The Indiana also hired the former development coach of Sun Player Keith Porter and the assistant coach of Sun Austin Kelly this offseason. The GM Amber Cox fever overlapping with Bonner at the start of the veteran’s career when the two were with Mercury. By deciding to join fever, Bonner apparently chose not to join his fiancée Alyssa Thomas in Phoenix, but in doing so, she probably also gave herself a better title of title in 2025.
The fever has not won a WNBA title since 2012 – and they have still not had a record of victories since 2015 – but they have catapulted themselves in the running after an occupied off -season with movements that have reported several times The desire to compete. – Ben Pickman, WNBA staff editor
It is officially the end of an era of Connecticut. The five of its main starters last season left the sun via a free agency or trades. The release of Bonner was not surprising after the start of the sun exodus earlier this week, but it simply strengthened that the organization is about to undergo a transition period.
First -year coach Rachid Meziane and first -year managing director Morgan Tuck will be responsible for tracing the new management of the franchise. And as we wrote on Saturday after the sun exchanged Carrington on the wings, the sun should try to have a reconstruction of at least two years because their cumulative record of the 2024 and 2025 season may not be enough Bad to fix them to the superior Lottery Cotes (they won 28 games last year). – Pickman
