Fetterman on US Greenland Acquisition Talks: ‘Responsible Conversation’

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) described recent discussions over the U.S. acquisition of Greenland as a “responsible conversation.”

During an interview on Fox News on Tuesday, Fetterman admitted that while he would “never support” the taking of Greenland “by force,” it would be a “responsible conversation” to talk about the acquisition of Greenland from Denmark, including “purchasing it outright.”

Fetterman’s comments come after President-elect Donald Trump previously said the U.S. takeover of Greenland was an “absolute necessity” for national security and freedom.

“There’s a lot of talk about Greenland, for example, and I know there’s a lot of panic and of course I would never support taking it by force,” Fetterman said. “But I think it’s a responsible conversation if they were willing to acquire it, you know, whether it’s just buying it outright.”

Fetterman told those who think the idea of ​​the United States acquiring Greenland is “crazy” that under former President Thomas Jefferson the United States purchased Louisiana and that under former President Andrew Johnson, the United States had purchased Alaska.

“If anyone thinks that’s crazy, it’s like, well, remember the Louisiana Purchase,” Fetterman added. “I think Alaska was a pretty good deal as well, $50 million, I think. It was called Seward’s Folly.

Amid talk of the United States acquiring Greenland, Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., recently visited Greenland with Turning Point founder Charlie Kirk.

In an interview on Tuesday, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said Greenland is not for sale, adding that Greek Prime Minister Mute Egede had “been very, very clear” that the Greenlandic people were expressing that “Greenland is not for sale”. according to the Hill.
