Barry Ferguson insists that he has not abandoned his dream of becoming director of the Rangers – saying that he “would improve the club” if he was appointed permanently.
Ferguson was appointed acting boss two months ago after the dismissal of Philippe Clement.
Invited to take the team until the end of the season, Ferguson supervised four victories, two draws and four defeats from his ten matches at the helm so far.
The Rangers name Kevin Thelwell as a new sports director earlier this week, as revealed exclusively by email Sport on Tuesday, the wait is that the club will also pursue a new manager in summer.
While buyout talks continue with the 49ers enterprises, Thelwell should lead the search for a new permanent manager in summer, potentially supported by new investments in the United States.
But, with five games of the season to play, Ferguson insists on the fact that he still has a lot to offer – and has not given up winning the position in full time.

Speaking before today’s trip to St Mirren, he said: `If I get the job, I will make my club a better club. If I do not get the post, I will always support the club. This is how I look at him.
“I have five games to play, the last game is May 17. I focus on the next few weeks.
“There have been a few bumps since I entered, I knew it was going to be the case, but I was not afraid of that. I know the necessary changes.
“In terms of better (candidates), there are obviously mentioned names that have much more experience than me. But I will always support myself.
“Listen, I may not be the tea cup of everyone, but I know that I can do the work alongside the staff I have brought. We just have to wait and see.”
When asked if he could be managed elsewhere if the rangers should name someone else, he said: “No – because it was my club and I was not interested in returning to training.
“I had the opportunity that I never thought that I would have entered and I entered it and I appreciated every second.
“Some of the results that I did not appreciate, they injured me. But I like the challenge, because it is a big challenge.

“Regarding in the future, management elsewhere, no. I have already had a good life, I have already appreciated my role in the Rangers, and if it will not manage, then I hope that I will come back and I will appreciate what I was doing (role of ambassador).
Thelwell will play his new role when his contract with Everton will expire at the end of the season, after previous spells with Wolves and New York Red Bulls.
Ferguson has not yet had the chance to speak with Thelwell, but plans to do so at some point in the near future.
“I’m going to have a meeting with him,” said Ferguson, who confirmed that the left back Ridvan Yilmaz will miss the rest of the season due to an injury reproached during the defeat of the Europa League against Bilbao athletic.
“I don’t know when it’s, but when we sit down, I will be honest, and I will be clear. We are going to hit our heads together.
“It’s good, he’s an experienced guy, he has been a lot of clubs, many big clubs too, so I think it was a need that was necessary. Many changes are required.
“This is something that I said that there must be an external investment, I have said it for a few years now. So, it seems that it will be close now (with the takeover), it’s just a matter of time.
“I have no time on how long it will take, but as a supporter of the Rangers, I am of course happy to see that the talks are progressing well.”
