College Park, md. – American fences disqualified a shooter of a female tournament in Maryland after refusing to face an opponent who, she said, is transgender.
Stephanie Turner was in competition on March 30 in a regional tournament sanctioned in the United States at the University of Maryland. It was not an event sanctioned by the NCAA.
The online video showed that Turner has gained a knee in protest before his match against the opponent. We showed him a black cart by an official and disqualified the rest of the tournament. The Associated Press does not identify Turner’s opponent because they did not publicly comment on the incident and disclosed their gender identity.
“A writer is not authorized to refuse to close another closure correctly entered for any reason whatsoever,” said USA Fencing in a press release published at the Associated Press. “Under these rules, such a refusal involves disqualification and corresponding sanctions. This policy exists to maintain equitable competition standards and preserve the integrity of sport.”
USA Fencing said that he had promulgated its current transgender and non -binary athletes in 2023. The organization added that Turner’s disqualifcation only applies to the March 30 tournament.
“We understand that conversation on equity and inclusion concerning Transgender participation In sport evolves, “indicates the declaration.” American fences will always be mistaken on the side of inclusion, and we are committed to modifying policy as research based on more relevant evidence emerge, or that policy changes take effect in the wider Olympic and Paralympic movement. “”
Turner told Fox News Digital that after checking the competition pool at night before the event, she realized that she would competition a transgender opponent.
“I told them that I refused to close because this person is a man, and I am a woman, and it is a female tournament and I refuse to close in principle,” Turner told Fox News.
