Felony charge added against Imperial Beach man in Jan. 6 Capitol breach case

An Imperial Beach man who allegedly scaled the U.S. Capitol building with a rope on Jan. 6, 2021, has been charged with felony and misdemeanor counts.

Joshua Kaleb Youngerman, 23, is accused of being a member of a California-based group calling itself “The California Patriots-DC Brigade” or “DC Brigade,” which coordinated his travel to Washington, D.C., on the social networks. January 6.

According to the Department of Justice, the description of the group on the messaging service Telegram read: “This group will serve as communications for able-bodied people traveling to Washington on January 6. Many of us have never met before and we are all ready. and willing to engage in this fight. We will come together for this moment that is called to us.

On January 6, Youngerman was allegedly seen on surveillance footage climbing a rope on the northwest wall of the Capitol building.

After January 6, he reportedly posted on social media: “I fully support the storming and occupation of the capital from within and without. This was the original intention of many. We have come to reclaim our house.

Youngerman was charged last year with five misdemeanors, but a superseding indictment filed earlier this week includes one count of obstructing an official proceeding.

The Justice Department said in a statement that more than 1,387 people — including several with ties to San Diego County — have been charged with crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol, and that the investigation into the events of January 6 is still in progress.
