Fed chair remarks, house sales, Walmart and Home Depot gains

Main to remember

  • The president of the federal reserve, Jerome Powell, is expected to present closely observed remarks on Friday, potentially indicating how the central bank could approach interest rates.
  • Walmart, Home Depot, Target and Lowe’s should publish profits, giving an overview of consumer spending models and pricing pressures.
  • Data on the housing market, the minutes of the Fed meeting and weekly complaints on unemployment will also attract attention this week.

Prepare to hear a lot about Jerome Powell.

The remarks of the President of the Federal Reserve will probably require the attention of market observers this week while investors are looking for the clarity of the next movements of the central bank. Powell was under pressure to produce rate drops, but recent economic data put civil servants in a difficult position.

Traders will also follow the expected benefits of the main retailers, including Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Lowe’s and Ross. Investors will monitor signs of inflation focused on prices and discolor the feeling of consumers. Data on the housing market, the minutes of the Fed meeting and weekly unemployment complaints could also have an impact on the markets this week.

The main American indexes recorded gains last week, the DOW receiving an intrajournnal record on Friday.

Investors turn to Powell NOTES for more clarity on the interest rate trajectory

Attention will turn to the American west this week. At the Annual Jackson Hole Economic Policy Symposium, Powell should lead a range of speakers that includes central bankers, economists and senior officials.

Economists see more likely that the Fed will reduce interest rates at its next meeting, the Central Bank, faces the incessant pressure from President Donald Trump and other administration officials to reduce loan costs at its next meeting in September. The Fed has not lowered the rates since last December and is now in a difficult position, said BMO’s main economist, Jennifer Lee, with turning inflation while the labor market seems lower than you think.

“I can’t imagine the pressure on the Fed Powell chair before the Jackson Hole rally,” Lee wrote in a recent blog article.

The report of the July meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee will provide an overview of the FED vision of interest rates and the economy and could add an overview of the actions of two members of the committee who separated from their colleagues to vote in favor of a drop in rate last month.

Data on the housing market and unemployed complaints will also be published this week.

Walmart, target gain due in the form of pricing pressures to be forged

While Trump’s prices are starting to show a certain impact on inflation, reports on the income of large retailers will show if import taxes reach their sales.

Walmart’s planned report (WMT) comes on Thursday after the retailer said he would look at price increases to help balance prices. Home Depot (HD) said that he was trying to maintain his price structure, investors obtaining more details on the equipment retailer with his report set on Tuesday.

The expected Wednesday report from Target (TGT) follows warnings during the previous quarter that sales can be lower than those initially planned. Sales have also experienced a softening for TJ Maxx Parent TJX (TJX), which said during the previous quarter that prices should have an impact on income figures. The other notable retailers Scheuled to report this week include the Low’s (LOW) domiciliary renovation chain and the Ross Stores reduced retailer (ROST).
