Fears grow for Conor McGregor’s return fight at UFC 303 as Michael Chandler appears to leave training camp

Michael Chandler appeared to walk out of training camp ahead of his clash with Conor McGregor, casting huge doubt over their fight.

Chandler posted a cryptic message on Instagram, implying he was heading home to Tennessee with UFC 303 less than four weeks away.

The two men are expected to face each other in the main event in Las Vegas on June 29.

McGregor hasn’t been in the Octagon for three years and his return was long overdue, while Chandler has been out of action since November 2022.

Fears began to grow over the status of the fight when the UFC canceled a planned press conference in Ireland on Monday, just hours before it was scheduled to begin.

McGregor released a statement on social media saying the event was canceled due to a “series of obstacles beyond our control.”

Journalist Ariel Helwani later reported that the UFC was exploring possible replacements for the fight.

He wrote: “The hope is still that the fight continues. There is some positivity, I would say. But they have sent out probes to see who might be able to replace him, either as a replacement or by launching a brand new fight level.” at the top of the poster. Still in development, and still taking time.

On Tuesday night, Chandler hinted that the fight would not take place.

He wrote on Instagram: “If you’re looking for me, I’ll be in Tennessee. No way out of the life we’ve chosen… Keep going.

“See you at the top!”

Chandler was at his combat camp in Florida, but appears to be leaving that camp to return home.

No official word has been given from the UFC, nor from McGregor himself, that the fight has been canceled.
