FDA Approves Self-Collection Test for Cervical Cancer Virus

The Food and Drug Administration decided this week to expand screening for potentially deadly cervical cancer by allowing women to collect test samples themselves, a move that reproductive health advocates say is crucial to eradicate this preventable disease.

For the first time, women will be able to collect samples for testing in private rooms within primary care doctors’ offices, urgent care clinics and even pharmacies – an advancement that could presage at-home testing .
