FDA approves Elon Musk’s NeuraLink for human brain implant trials
The FDA has granted clearance to Elon Musk’s brain implant company, NeuraLink, to conduct human clinical studies.

Musk has long predicted that the FDA will eventually allow the brain implant company to conduct studies involving humans.
However, the FDA denied the company’s original application in 2022, citing safety issues with the product. The company now appears to have overcome these concerns.
NeuraLink’s goal is to develop brain-computer interfaces for the purpose of human enhancement in a wide variety of areas – a goal sometimes described as transhumanism.
In previous interviews, Elon Musk said he hoped NeuraLink could “treat brain damage or spinal damage and compensate for someone’s lost ability with a chip.”
In 2021, NeuraLink released a video showing monkeys using neural signals to play the video game Pong. This step had previously been taken by scientists in the laboratory, but not by a commercial company developing a product for everyday consumers.
Although Elon Musk has been one of the most knowledgeable public figures about the potential dangers of AI, he said he hopes NeuraLink will help humans achieve “symbiosis with artificial intelligence” in the long term. .
The idea that a blend of human intelligence and artificial intelligence will enable humans to transcend previously crippling diseases, potentially increasing human lifespan in the process, has long been mooted in Silicon Valley as part of a broader discourse on a potential “technological singularity” in which artificial intelligence surpasses human intelligence.
