Father Ted creator Graham Linehan vindicated by Cass report into NHS trans treatment of children, fans say after he was canceled and vilified for his views on young people’s gender transition

The creator of TV series Father Ted, who believes those who support young people’s gender transition are child molesters, today thanked his fans for their support and said he was ‘proud as punch » following an explosive review of the NHS’s treatment of transgender people.

Graham Linehan’s fans said he was vindicated by the Cass Review’s conclusion that medical treatment for child gender protection was based on weak evidence.

The study’s final report said children were disappointed by the lack of research and evidence on the use of puberty blockers and hormones, amid an extremely toxic debate.

In recent years, the Irish comedy writer has become a vocal critic of trans ideology and activism, saying it harms children and infringes on women’s rights.

Linehan was even banned by Twitter in 2020 for saying “men are not women” and his views saw him rejected when he lost his agent, his TV career and his marriage.

Today, fans claimed the comedian had finally been vindicated after years of suffering abuse and being “canceled.” And Linehan, 55, tweeted: “I’m proud if I’ve helped enable a broader understanding of what the grooming process entails.”

“The Internet has enabled the trans movement to engage on an unprecedented scale. I also have to thank social worker Lisa M for opening my eyes to the magnitude of the situation.

He added: “Last thing before I go to bed. Thanks to everyone who sent lovely DMs. It’s like the opposite of what happened when I first started speaking. Proud as hell to have been by your side. It’s funny how many people don’t even know this happened.

Among those who shared their support for Linehan after today’s report was the Norwich Women’s Rights Group, which tweeted: “As the Cass Review documents the medical scandal of our lifetime, the Norwich Women’s Rights Group thanks our good friend @Glinner for all he did to warn. the world has caused over 20 years of damage to children. You were right. #GlinnerWasRight #CassReport.’

Comedian Josh Howie added: “The hatred and ridicule directed at Graham by colleagues in the comedy industry in recent years has disgusted me.

“He was right and he was brave and he was completely vilified for it. Let’s see if even one of these brave “truth tellers” apologizes now.

And Louise Ashworth, a campaigner for gender identity ideology, tweeted: “I hope anyone who incredulously asked @Glinner why he cared so much or why he was willing to lose his friends and family career will hang their heads in shame #CassReport.”

Last October, Linehan claimed he was dropped by his TV agent Independent Talent after calling David Tennant an “abusive groomer” on social media.

Linehan slammed the Doctor Who star last July for wearing a T-shirt that read “Leave the trans kids alone, you’re absolute monsters” – describing Tennant as “disgusting”, “ignorant” and “reckless” .

Linehan belongs to a controversial school of thought that considers those who support youth gender transition to be child molesters.

He previously tweeted in January last year: “Telling kids they don’t have the right body is abuse.”

Linehan rose to fame in 1995 for creating the Channel 4 sitcom Father Ted which ran until 1998. He went on to write Black Books and The IT Crowd.

But he has more recently become known for standing up to transgender activists, leading to a Twitter ban and the shutdown of his show at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Linehan said sudden financial insecurity caused by his trans views caused the collapse of his 16-year marriage to Helen Serafinowicz, co-creator of BBC comedy Motherland.

In 2021, he revealed that sudden financial insecurity caused by his trans views caused the collapse of his 16-year marriage to Helen Serafinowicz, co-creator of the BBC comedy Motherland.

Then, in September last year, Mr Linehan claimed police stopped him from attending the Conservative Party conference because of his alleged anti-trans views.

The Irish sitcom writer complained to the party after being refused access to the conference in Manchester, leading to a U-turn as then-president Greg Hands apologized and assured that he could attend.

Linehan was not informed of the reasons for the refusal, but in 2018 he received a warning from West Yorkshire Police after an argument with a transgender activist on X.

He ended up performing outside the Scottish Parliament in August last year after two venues at the Edinburgh Fringe canceled his appearance.

Meanwhile, recommendations from the much-anticipated Cass Review report have prompted NHS England, which had already stopped administering puberty blockers to under-16s, to announce a review of the use of hormones.

He has also written to local NHS leaders asking them to suspend first appointment offers at adult gender clinics for young people before their 18th birthday, as he also intends to carry out a major review of these services.

Dr Cass had, among his 32 recommendations, called for a “follow-up” service for 17 to 25-year-olds rather than this “vulnerable” group going straight to adult clinics, saying teenagers were “falling off the edge of the cliff” in their care when they reach 17 years of age.

Its report concluded that gender mainstreaming is currently an area where “the evidence is remarkably weak” and that young people have been caught up in a “heated social discourse”.

The report, first commissioned in 2020, calls for gender services to operate “to the same standards” as other health services for children and young people, with “a holistic assessment” of those referred, including including screening for neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism, and a mental health assessment.

She said that “for the majority of young people, a medical pathway may not be the best way” to meet their needs.

The Children’s Society called for the report to “mark a watershed moment” in promoting an environment “that places the welfare and safety of all children at its heart”, while the Royal College of Psychiatrists stated that all children questioning gender should be “timely.” access to holistic services that meet their individual needs.”
