Fatal crash closes lanes on eastbound Interstate 580 near Fruitvale Ave. in Oakland, authorities say

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) — A fiery crash closed lanes on eastbound Interstate 580 between 35th and Fruitvale Avenues in Oakland, authorities say.

Police said two vehicles were involved in the crash and both vehicles rolled into the brush on the right shoulder.

Crews extricated two people, police said, including one who was seriously injured and went to Highland Hospital in Oakland. The status of the other patient is unknown.

But the California Highway Patrol confirmed to ABC7 that a driver died, but it’s unclear from which vehicle.

Police said a vehicle caught fire, which spread to vegetation and prompted other agencies to report the scene.

SKY7 was on scene where multiple agencies investigated the accident.
