SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — A warning about a new scam targeting toll roads and bridges across the state.
The scam comes in the form of a text message claiming you owe money for using a FasTrak lane.
It also threatens the loss of your license or late payment penalties if you don’t pay.
Officials at Toll Roads, the company that operates FasTrak, say it does not send text messages to non-account holders.

If you have an account, you should ignore messages asking for specific amounts of money.
If you are unsure, you should go online and verify your account.
ABC7 logged onto the FasTrak website on Sunday and a text phishing scam notice popped up.

He declared:
“Important notice to customers regarding nationwide SMS phishing scam. California toll operators are advising drivers to ignore phishing text messages sent to their phones that detail a specific unpaid toll amount. If you receive a text message and are unsure, please contact your local toll agency. If you receive a phishing message, please file a complaint at www.ic3.gov. sharing information about crimes on the Internet between law enforcement agencies.
