Fans were incredulous after a recent image of an old Chelsea star who looks very different from his Stamford Bridge days has become viral online.
The defender, 37, had two spells in Chelsea between 2011 and 2019, and won the Premier League, the Champions League, two FA Cups and the Europa League twice with the club.
He joined Flamengo in 2021 and now plays for another Brazilian club, Fortaleza, after finishing his transfer earlier this year.
David Luiz, who also spent two years at Arsenal, was famous for his Afro Cup while he was playing in England, but these days seem to have disappeared for a long time.
During the 2-1 defeat of Fortaleza by Palmeiras on Sunday, Luiz was represented in action with her now much shorter hair and a bald patch visible on the top of his head.
He will be 38 years old Tuesday, and supporters on social networks suggested that his age had finally caught up with him when they were shocked by the transformation of Luiz.

Luiz, who won 57 international caps for Brazil, always plays regularly after returning to his homeland.
He has appeared in the five games of the Fortaleza League so far this season.
His team has collected five points to date and sit 13th in the main division of Brazil.
