The fan who fell from the right field held in PNC Park, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates, during the Wednesday evening match against the Chicago Cubs was identified as Kavan Markwood.
A spokesperson for the South Allegheny school district confirmed his identity to Athletics And said Markwood graduated in 2022 by South Allegheny High School. The city of Pittsburgh is located in the county of Allegheny (Pennsylvania).
“The South Allegheny school district keeps the former student and athlete outside the Kavan Markwood competition in our thoughts and our prayers during this difficult period,” spokesperson Laura Thomson said in a press release Athletics. “Kavan is best known for his resilience, his strength and his kindness. He is a friend of all – someone who raises others and faces challenges with courage and grace. ”
Markwood remains in critical condition at the Allegheny General Hospital after falling from a section of the stands with a rail above the Clemente wall of 21 feet in the right field during the seventh round of the match. He hit the wall before landing on the warning track, have shown circulating videos on social networks.
Markwood remained motionless while the medical teams rushed to his aid and won on the ground on a stretcher. He was transported to hospital.
Wednesday’s match was delayed for several minutes after Markwood’s fall, but finally resumed.
The incident is treated as an accidental by nature, Pittsburgh public security said on Thursday morning.
“We are all deeply saddened and really broken heart after the terrible accident that occurred last night,” said Pirates President Bob Nutting on Thursday. “It was one of the most difficult moments that many of us have ever known. We are devastated. “
