Families of fallen officers ‘won’t pay mortgage anymore’

The four men killed in Monday’s ambush left behind a total of four women and eight children. Even though the emotional burden will last forever, an organization does its best to improve its financial situation.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation announced it would pay off the four families’ mortgages.

“We were able to reach these families yesterday. We contacted them personally and assured them that they would no longer make a mortgage payment,” said John Huvane, vice president of the organization.

It’s something the organization does for the families of all fallen first responders across the country who have young children left behind.

“At the end of the day, there are four families here. In total, eight children do not have a father, neither for Christmas, nor for the upcoming holidays, nor for the summer. This was stolen from them,” Huvane said.

These four fallen heroes include CMDP Officer Joshua Eyer, North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections investigators Alden Elliot and Sam Poloche, and Deputy U.S. Marshal Thomas Weeks.

Even though these families’ homes will never be whole again, this gesture, along with several other gestures from the Charlotte community, at least removes one burden.
