Despite only being in Green Bay for a single season, Packers defensive passing game coordinator Derrick Ansley has left his mark on the club. Not only was he part of a significant defensive turnaround in his first year on the Packers’ roster, but Ansley used his previous experience with safety Xavier McKinney at Alabama to help him earn All-Star honors. -First team pro in 2024.
It now appears that Ansley is once again a hot name in the coaching market. The Atlanta Falcons announced Thursday that they have completed an interview with Ansley for their open defensive coordinator position, the first such interview Ansley has reportedly been asked for this offseason.
Ansley is the fourth candidate to interview for the position, along with Wink Martindale, Jeff Ulbrich and Lou Anarumo, all of whom, like Ansley, have experience as former NFL defensive coordinators. After leaving the college level in 2017, Ansley served as defensive backs coach for the Oakland Raiders and Los Angeles Chargers, as well as serving as the Chargers’ defensive coordinator in 2023.
The Falcons’ head coach is Raheem Morris, who has coached the defensive side of the ball in the past, so it is uncertain whether or not this coordinator position would come with playing opportunities.
Quickly, the Packers coaching staff appears less stable as the 2025 season approaches. Quarterbacks coach Tom Clements has already retired and defensive line coach Jason Rebrovich was fired on Thursday. On top of that, Ansley, defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley and offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich are all interviewing outside for promotions at other clubs.
