Fabio Wardley and Frazer Clarke interviews abandoned so fighters can receive medical attention after bloody battle

Fabio Wardley and Frazer Clarke skipped post-fight interviews following their brutal British title battle.

The heavyweight rivals were rushed backstage to receive immediate medical attention after tearing each other apart in a bloody 12-round draw in London on Sunday night.

It is customary for boxers to be interviewed in the ring or on the apron immediately after the decision – but neither man was fit to speak to the media.

Sky Sports commentators confirmed immediately after the contest that Wardley and Clarke would not speak about their fight as they required immediate medical attention.

Wardley, who was narrowly clinging to his British heavyweight belt, suffered a horrific broken nose which was leaking blood for most of the match.

The 29-year-old also fought with a badly swollen eye, but he still managed to land damaging shots that injured Clarke and even knocked him to the ground for the first time in his boxing career professional.

Clarke was floored by a series of strikes in the fifth round before getting back up and taking more damaging shots throughout the 36-minute affair at the O2 Arena.

The Olympic bronze medalist collapsed to the ground in exhaustion as soon as the fight ended, but fortunately was able to get back to his feet to hear the official decision announced.

Ultimately, Clarke conducted a post-fight interview after being checked and cleared by on-site medical personnel.

“We didn’t bring the title back to the locker room, so we’re a bit depressed and gutted,” he said.

“I felt I did enough to win, even though he had a few good attacks.

“I hope he wants to go back. If it was as much of a classic as the fans seem to say, then the fans deserve to see it again.”

A post-fight interview with Wardley was shared on Monday morning, and fans will be happy to know that he is also looking to have an immediate rematch with Clarke.

“It was a great fight and he deserves a rematch,” Wardley said.

“He deserves to be a clearer winner, a lot of people have asked for that. I don’t think I’ll be happy with my career after this draw and just running away from it.

“So we can go back, it’s no problem.”
