A critical aviation warning system that was overturned on Saturday was restored in working order, the Secretary of Transport said on Sunday.
“He fell last night. A backup system has been activated. Currently, the main system is online and works, “Duffy told Jake Tapper from CNN on” State of the Union “.
When the main Notam system fell on Saturday evening, Duffy posted on X “there can be residual delays” flights on Sunday morning.
“This is the system where the pilots download their information; Their flight details before flying. So, if the Notam system does not work, planes do not fly, “said Duffy. “But there was a minimum disturbance.”
Shortly before noon and Sunday, there were 1,313 delays and 80 cancellations towards the flights inside, in or outside the United States, according to Flight Tracker Flightaware.
Note, which means notice to air mission, is a computer system that sends alerts to drivers on conditions that could affect the security of their flights.
This could include information on the lights off on a track, a tower near an airport without the required safety lights running – or an air show that takes place in the nearby aerial space.
It is separated from the air traffic control system which maintains planes at a safety distance from each other, but it is another essential tool for air security.
The system has already dropped; A breakdown in January 2024 briefly interrupted all American flights.
“There is a process in place at the moment to repair this system. We want to speed up this and set up this new system, “said Duffy. “This is an old system that must be improved.”
