‘F****** Cafu!’ – Jamie Carragher and Roy Keane crack up as Gary Neville’s makes accidental ‘harsh’ Rio Ferdinand comment

Jamie Carragher couldn’t help but make a joke about Rio Ferdinand’s accidental ‘harsh’ remark from his co-pundit Gary Neville.

The former England and Manchester United defender joined Neville’s Stick To Football podcast, alongside his former teammate and Roy Keane, as well as Carragher, Ian Wright and Jill Scott.

As usual, the pundits were often left laughing, and it’s no surprise that Liverpool icon Carragher jumped at the chance to lash out at his former enemy-turned-pal Neville.

Speaking about the start of his career, Neville asked: “Was it the move to Leeds that completely changed your mindset about how serious defense was?

“Because when you first came to United, I always remember the words you said to me before every game, ‘nothing on our side’. It was a serious ‘nothing on our side’.

“I can’t imagine a young Rio Ferdinand (doing that). So where do you go as a carefree central defender who, if you like, gives away a goal or two, you know, every week…”

But before the former right-back could finish his statement, Carragher and Roy Keane started smiling.

“It’s a bit hard !” Carragher joked, as Neville realized that what he had said might have been interpreted in a way he hadn’t intended.

All the former pros laughed together and Ferdinand smiled as his former teammate was left in stitches.

Carragher then stepped in again with a huge smile on his face and threw another cheeky jibe at his co-expert.

“Fucking Cafu!” he laughed, referring to the iconic Brazilian right-back.

Neville then continued his question by asking: “Being that serious advocate who comes to me and says ‘nothing on our side’. When does that happen?”

Scott then joked: “When he had to play with you!”

Despite jumping to defend Ferdinand during the podcast, Carragher and his former opponent were recently at odds on social media.

The two men had a war of words following Manchester United’s dramatic FA Cup win over Liverpool.

After everyone stopped laughing at Carragher’s joke, Ferdinand finally responded to Neville.

“When I was at West Ham I lived on an estate and my friends were so jealous of me,” he said. “So all I was thinking about was impressing them, and that could have been by making a move against a striker.

“We could have lost 3-0, but if I had performed a skill, I would tell my friends to watch the highlights of the day’s match for that skill, and that was my mindset.

“It was all about playing well if I made a move on an attacker or took the ball out a few times, and Harry Redknapp defended me for that, calling me a Rolls-Royce of a defender, so I I didn’t benefit from this defensive mentoring.

“Also, I was being applauded in the media for being a different type of centre-back. Then I went to Leeds and asked to speak to the manager directly, so I called David O’Leary and told him asked if he was going to coach me on defense and teach me to be more aggressive, and it is to his credit that he and his team constantly coached me on the training pitch.

“Obviously going from West Ham to Leeds, who were playing in the Champions League, the stakes were a lot higher, you take it more seriously and you start to look at the game differently, and that was part of my development.

“But then going to Manchester United was totally different. I had come into a team that had won five or six Premier League titles, and here I am without any trophies, let alone Premier League medals, so I” I sat there thinking, “How can I improve?” »

“I remember one game, we played against West Brom, and I tried to make a few cross passes at the start to show people, but they were knocked out and they almost scored every time, and I remember walking into the dressing room at half time and the manager unloading on me which was a big blow to my ego and made me realize my responsibility in the team.

“There are so many better players on the ball, who are there to create chances, and I just have to be good in defense.”
