John Ulyot, who was until recently a spokesperson for the Pentagon, says that the time of Pete Hegseth, while the defense secretary is probably exhausted.
In a scathing opinion article published by Politico on Sunday evening, Ulyot suggested that President Donald Trump could consider rejecting Hegseth while the Pentagon was struggling with a series of public affairs crises.
“President Donald Trump has a solid record to keep his senior officials to account. Given that, it is difficult to see the defense secretary Pete HegSeth stay in his role longer,” wrote Ulyot.
Ulyot supported Hegseth vocally, writing in another room in December that the veteran and former Fox News host was “well qualified for work” to lead the Ministry of Defense. Even when he left the Pentagon earlier this week, Ulyot said he had supported his former boss.
He continued to rent Hegseth in his editorial. “I appreciate his friendship and I am grateful to give me the opportunity to serve,” wrote Ulyot.
“However, even stronger donors of the secretary like me must admit: the last month was a complete collapse of the Pentagon-and this becomes a real problem for the administration,” he added.
A “month of hell”
Ulyot’s criticisms intervene after his mandate, the first public affairs of the Defense Department at the start of the Trump administration. He supervised the Pentagon’s mandate to remove the images of DEI and his reallocation of his media office spaces, starting outlets such as the New York Times and NBC in favor of right -wing media like Breitbart.

However, in February, the role of Ulyot as chief spokesperson was taken over by Sean Parnell, the current Pentagon press secretary. Ulyot finally resigned on Wednesday, saying that he had said to Hegseth when he had been hired that he “was not interested in being number two for anyone in public affairs”.
In his editorial a few days later, he described the recent difficulties of the Pentagon as a “month of hell” which started with Signalgate – the Atlantic bomb report in March that its editor was wrongly added to a group of signals discussing the American strikes.
Ulyot wrote that HegSeth’s initial response was a disaster.
“No one sent war plans, and that’s all I have to say about it,” HegSeth told journalists. The Atlantic followed by the details of the publication of F / A-18 Strikes Hegseth sent to the cat.
“It was a violation of the number one public relations rule – bring out the bad news,” Ulyot wrote Hegseth’s comment to the press.
Other distinct reports quickly stacked on signalgate, and Ulyot has written that it is probably more than more will continue to emerge.
“Unfortunately, after a terrible month, the Pentagon Focus is no longer on war fights, but on an endless drama,” wrote Ulyot.
These include reports according to which Hegseth had brought his wife to sensitive meetings with foreign counterparts and that the Pentagon was to give Elon Musk a briefing top secret. Three of the best aids in Hegseth would also have been dismissed this week in the midst of a leak investigation, while the chief of staff of the secretary resigned.
On Sunday, the New York Times reported a second signal cat, created by Hegseth, which included his wife and brother. The Times reported that Hegseth had sent them the same details of us.

In a statement to Business Insider, Parnell, the current spokesperson for the Pentagon, described the “garbage” report and congratulated HegSeth’s office as more effective. “There was no classified information in a signal cat, regardless of the number of ways they try to write history,” he said
However, Ulyot wrote that all of these median HegSeth median combined crises will likely lose his job.
“In short, the building is in disarray under the direction of Hegseth,” wrote Ulyot.
He wrote that Trump had previously rejected other members of the cabinet that Ullyot respected, notably Jim Mattis, Rex Tillerson and Mark Esper.
The former spokesperson for the Pentagon ended his element of opinion by suggesting that a similar dismissal of Hegseth would benefit Trump.
“The President deserves better than the current pentagon music loom,” he wrote. “Given his record for keeping heads of previously responsible cabinet, many in the secretary of the secretary will calmly applaud if Trump chooses to do the same in a short time at the top of the Ministry of Defense.”
Ulyot and the White House did not respond to requests for comments sent outside regular work hours by Bi. Likewise, the Pentagon did not answer questions about Ulyot’s opinion from press time.
