An arrest warrant was issued the same day.

Sutton faces serious charges, including a charge of domestic battery by strangulation, which is a third-degree felony and carries a sentence of up to five years in prison, ESPN reported.

The sheriff’s office released a brief clip of Sutton surrendering to authorities at the Orient Road jail, wearing a long-sleeved white shirt and mustard-colored shorts.

Sutton arrived at the jail to turn himself in at 8:24 p.m., according to a news release from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, nearly a week after his attorney informed police he would turn himself in.

“After weeks of evading law enforcement, this man finally did the right thing by turning himself in,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. “Domestic violence has no place in our community, and no one is above the law here in Hillsborough County. My thoughts are with this woman as she continues to heal from this man’s horrible actions.

Sutton was at the Lions’ facility when the organization discovered the warrant and they advised him to turn himself in, team president Rod Wood told Fox 2 during the NFL owners’ meeting.

They suggested he “do the right thing” before the front desk met later that day and opted to release him.

The outlet also reported that a spokesperson for the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said evidence suggested there were injuries to the alleged victim’s body.
