Since the release of his first feature film, toy story, in 1995, Pixar changed the landscape of animation and generated many classics in the process. Many people have strong ideas about what the best Pixar movie is – opinions that are sometimes based on (or at least influenced by) the one you (or a beloved child in your life) watched on repeat. at a formative age. This is not to say that nostalgia is a necessary element in choosing your favorite Pixar film: countless coconut enthusiasts, for example, were already adults when the film was released in 2017.
In short, be objective about the merits of Pixar films, which are famous for turning even the most stoic viewer into a disaster (looking at you, Up opening sequence), is not an easy task. And Rotten Tomatoes isn’t a perfect platform for objectively judging a movie’s merits, but because it’s always fun to see how your own opinions compare to those of the Tomatometer, below are the 27 Pixar films, ranked from highest to lowest reviews. ‘ score on Rotten Tomatoes. When it comes to ties, the film with the most reviews is listed first.
During the pandemic period, following poor box office performance (e.g. 2022 Light year) and the straight-to-streaming versions that didn’t make much of a splash (for example, the 2021 one Lucas), people are starting to wonder if Pixar hasn’t lost its edge. Parent company Disney even recently announced plans to lay off 14% of all Pixar employees (which equates to around 175 people) in order to prioritize quality over quantity.
But even if these new Pixar films haven’t cemented themselves in the pop culture consciousness in the same way that, say, Ratatouille did, the Tomatometer rankings reveal that critics still largely think they’re solid: Lucas got a 91 percent; Turn red (2022) is 95 percent; and even Light year is certified fresh with 74 percent. In fact, there is only one Pixar film that is not certified Fresh: Cars 2released in 2011.
