Every new Multiversus fighter is locked behind a 38-hour PvP game – except for characters like The Joker, who cost twice as much.

One Multiversus player estimates that it will take almost two full days to unlock each new character in Warner Bros’ fighting game, with premium fighters taking twice as long.
In a recent tweet, YouTuber WhyDo estimated that to unlock new characters beyond the first available fighters (several of whom become unusable after each week), they would need to play more than 38 hours of PvP gameplay. Claiming that after 100 minutes of play (after completing challenges), they had earned 130 points of the currency needed to purchase new fighters. This may seem acceptable, but in the context that most new fighters cost 3,000 points, this means that at that rate it would take over 38 hours to unlock each new character.
It takes over 38 hours of PvP gameplay to unlock a single new character in Multiversus, after the first few. After about 100 minutes of 2v2, I earned 130 fighter currency. That’s 78/hour. Most fighters cost 3000. At 6k Joker would take me 77 HOURS to unlock. Stop defending this. https://t.co/2X7ec8BYOe pic.twitter.com/amf1QgP13hMay 30, 2024
This rate is obviously increased by completing challenges, but it seems that each one only earns 1,000 points per day. And he’s also significantly slowed down by certain characters, like the Joker, who costs 6,000 points. That’s either six days of challenges or more than three full days – 77 hours – of PvP.
WhyDo states that “you get a brief but significant initial increase in currency” at the start of the game, but that this could “mislead people into thinking the game is more generous than it really is.” . There is also the option to purchase fighters (and cosmetics) with premium currency, but this is a financial hurdle that many will not want to overcome, condemning players to a long slog if they want to unlock something again.
After a one-year hiatus “to provide the best possible experience,” MultiVersus returns better than ever..
