Everton fans have taunted Liverpool supporters who endured a miserable evening at Goodison Park by mocking the Reds for making a mistake in the Premier League title race.

Shock defeat in the Merseyside derby gives Liverpool a mountain to climb as Jurgen Klopp’s side remain three points behind leaders Arsenal and just one point ahead of Man City who have a game in hand.

Liverpool’s forwards were ineffective against rivals Everton, while the visitors’ defense was broken down when Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin got on the scoresheet.

The Reds were previously unbeaten at the home of their rivals since 2010, when Everton also ran out two winners to nil on that occasion.

It’s been a happy stomping ground for Liverpool ever since and Toffees fans were keen to make the most of the rare victory over their noisy neighbors.

Home fans rubbed salt in Liverpool’s wounds by emphatically chanting at Klopp and his underperforming players “you lost the league at Goodison Park”.

This statement carries some weight as Liverpool are now the outside favorites among Arsenal and reigning champions Man City to win the English top-flight crown.

Meanwhile, the victory moves Sean Dyche’s side out of the league’s relegation zone and all but confirms their Premier League safety for next season.

Reds boss Klopp was realistic about his side’s chances of winning the title this season following the defeat and admitted they are out of the race unless a late “crisis” arises elsewhere.

“I really empathize with people,” he said. “We’ve never lost here (under Klopp) and it’s really different. I really apologize for that.

“We need a crisis at Manchester City and Arsenal and need to win football matches.

“We are also not safe (of qualifying for) the Champions League, so we should just play better football. You see we are pressed in front of goal,” he added.
