The number one rule of impostor syndrome is that almost everyone is in doubt – including the most experienced celebrities in Hollywood. Consider Gillian Anderson: Recently reflecting on his role as Eleanor Roosevelt in Showtime’s’s’s The First LadyThe actress revealed that she was “shocked” when she obtained the role.
“(Roosevelt) was such an extraordinary woman, and you know, I have five feet three, and she had five or ten feet,” said Anderson in an interview with Marie Claire Uk. “She was just very big, and we didn’t look like others.”

By putting aside their height difference, the real (and very relatable) “challenge” of Anderson was to overcome his own insecurity. “First of all, I couldn’t believe I could do it,” she said. “I really had to prevent my doubt from bothering myself. And yet, the opportunity to play someone like her, and to live in her shoes for a while, was extraordinary.”
Anderson continued: “Part of the reason why I said yes was to live it and study it.

The First Lady was created in 2022 and told the story of three emblematic presidents through the lives of three women: Eleanor Roosevelt (Anderson), Betty Ford (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Michelle Obama (Viola Davis). He finally received mixed criticism and was not renewed for a second season. Anderson then explained his interest in playing in Roosevelt during an interview with The official.
“I have admired her altruism and action for some time,” she said. “It is only really when I started to do the research and dive into all her life, and the difficulties she experienced when she was younger, that I achieved as she devoted her life to service … She had a very deep compassion for the human beings who suffered.
